FREE CROCHET PATTERN - Baby Blanket with Picot Shell Border

JANET MARIE'S CROCHET BABY BLANKET WITH PICOT SHELL BORDER
designed and created by Janet Marie Ethridge (formerly Marston-McGregor)
posted on 05/13/2013

Please do not sell this pattern - you may sell what you make, share the pattern and/or post back to this site.

I used Red Heart Baby Sport in multi-colored yarn and trimmed in a lavender picot shell border -
all #3 medium size yarn

With size J Hook, CH100 or however as wide as you want in multiples of 2

ROW 1 - DC in 5th CH from Hook, DC, CH2, SC, SKIP next 2, do *2DC, CH2, SC* across to end; at the end of the row, CH4, turn
ROW 2 and thereafter - 2DC in 1st CH space, CH2, SC, SKIP next 2, repeat * till blanket is as long as you want it; fasten off.

NOTE - sometimes it is hard for me to describe what I do, since I make it up as I go, so please feel free to ask questions or let me know if the pattern needs to be revised.  Thank you!

BORDER: First, do DC in every open space with (2DC, CH1, 2DC) in every corner.
Then, between each DC, do the shell - 2DC, (picot = CH2, go back in bottom of 1st CH), 2DC all around blanket (with shell, CH2, shell in every corner); fasten off.

  2. Hi Janet, thanks for sharing the pattern. Are you really using a 'J' hook with light '3' baby sport yarn? It seems a little off to me? My yarn is thinner than worsted, and I normally only use 'J' hooks for thick, chunky projects. Thanks again-I'm starting this tonight for a good friend who's due soon!

    1. i tend to crochet tight, so feel free to try a smaller hook - if you do, make your beginning chain bigger, like maybe to 120 or 150

  7. Can you please post how many skeins of yard this pattern uses? Thank you. I want to do it but don't want to under buy as I might not be able to match the color if I should run out.

  8. I have been making this blanket but the instruction are a little off. For row two it should be as Sonia Benefeld (April 30) has said.

Also from the picture the instructions for the border don't match the picture for the pattern. I see (3dc, ch 1) along the sides done in 2 rose and then and then the last row looks like shell (2dc, picot, 2dc) in the space around the border.

    1. Hi Glenda, when she says "multiples of 2", she is referring to if you want to change the size. You would either ch100, 102, 104, etc until you reach the desired size.

  19. Ok I have tried this now twice and mine keeps curling up which tells me there are too many stitches, I tried it without the 2 ch after the 2 DC and it doesn't curl but I am continually widening now as I go?
